Peruvian Medal for Distinguished Services Awarded to Jew for First Time in History

For the first time to its history the Peruvian Government has awarded its “Order of the Sun” medal to a Jew. The civilian decoration, awarded for outstanding achievements and distinguished services to Peru in the diplomatic, scientific, professional and cultural fields, was presented today to Dr. Theo Buchwals, director of the Lima Symphony Orchestra.

The Post Office Department has instructed all local branches to accept regular and airmail letters for delivery anywhere in Israel, it was officially announced here. However, parcels are not being accepted for the time being.
