The situation on the demilitarized Mt. Scopus area is worsening daily owing to the U.N.’s Inability to bring up water and food to the region and to relieve the Jewish personnel stationed at the Hadassah Hospital and the Hebrew University in accordance with a written agreement, Jerusalem Military Governor Dr. Bernard Joseph disclosed today. He said that a letter he sent to U.N. authorities five days ago regarding the Mt. Scopus situation has gone unanswered.
Dr. Joseph also revealed that an attempt to install telephone service in the Mr. Scopus area–at the behest of the U.N. truce officials–was foiled this week when Arabs opened up with machinegun fire against a party of Jews and American telephone workers despite their promise to withhold fire from the area for a two-hour period.
