The hope that President Truman will call a “halt to U.N. action imperilling Israel’s line of communication in the Negev” was voiced here today at a conference of the United Organizations for the Palestine Pioneers of the Histadruth by Rep. Jacob K. Javits (Rep.-N.Y.)

Urging wholehearted support of Histadruth’s $10,000,000 nationwide campaign, Congressman Javits said: “Histadruth should be of particular interest to the people of the United States, for it represents the free trade union movement in Israel as well as the great productive force in Israel. All of us look forward to the time when Israel. will be the workshop of the Middle East and not only a bridgehead of democracy but a bridgehead of production to relieve the economic distress and scarcity of goods in the Middle East and to restore conditions of literacy, health, and democratic action in the middle eastern countries now ridden by illiteracy, disease and feudalism.”
