A proposal to establish a $1,000,000 fund at the Haifa Technical Institute was discussed this week-end at the two-day second annual conference of the American Technion Society attended by 800 delegates. The fund would be established as a memorial to 66 graduates and students of the Institute who were killed in the current war. Gifts to the Institute totaling $75,000 were announced at the parley.
Arthur Lourie, Israeli Consul-General in New York, analyzed the strategic value of the Negev to the British, Arabs and Israelis, Rabbi Irving Miller, chairmen of the administrative council of the Zionist Organization of America, another speaker, called on President Truman to fulfill the “three-fold mandate” of the American people to grant de jure recognition to Israel, support the original U.N. partition plan and to grant a $100,000,000 lean to Israel.
