Dr. Stephen S. Wise, president of the American Jewish Congress, in a letter to British Ambassador to the U.S. Sir Oliver Franks, declared today that the continued detention of Jews on the island of Cyprus is a flagrant violation of the principles of the Magna Carta. The only “crime” of the Cyprus Jewish detainees, Dr. Wise stated, “is their passionate belief in and dedication to the principles of the Magna Carta.”
