British Foreign Secretary Ernest Bavin’s announcement in Commons yesterday that the detained Jews on Cyprus would be permitted to go to Israel as soon as the Jews provided transport for them was hailed here last night by the internees with unrestrained cheering for Bevin.
The 11,000 detained Jews here received the news of Bevin’s announcement at 9P.M., local time. Notwithstanding the heavy seasonal rainfall, they danced Horas in the mud throughout the night. Celebrations were still continuing this morning.
