The Swiss Government today announced de facto recognition of Israel, Reuters reported.

The British news agency asserted that the announcement came as a surprise “since it had been expected here that the Swiss would await recognition action by Britain.” An Israeli representative is expected to arrive soon in the Swiss capital. The Swiss are represented in Israel by a consul general.
