James G. McDonald, U.S. special representative to Israel, has been appointed American Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary for Israel, it was officially announced here today. He becomes the first foreign representative of ambassadorial rank accredited to the Jewish state.
Israeli Foreign Minister Moshe Shertok welcomed the appointment as a “new, important landmark in the evolution of friendly and cordial relations between Israel and the United States.”
