Nine hundred Jewish refugees evacuated from Shanghai arrived in Haifa today. This is the first major contingent of Shanghai to reach the Jewish state.

Two new Hapoel Hamizrachi settlements were established yesterday. One was founded in southern Israel by former settlers of Kfar Darom and was named N’tivot (Rcads). Kfar Darom was destroyed by the Egyptians during last year’s fighting. The second colony was established in the Negev by Hapoel Hamizrachi settlers from the United States and South Africa and was named Morasha.
