A special commission composed of representatives of Jewish political and economic groups has been established in Wroclaw, in Western Silesia, where most of the Jews of Poland live, to study and control the rapidly-increasing number of Jewish economic cooperatives. The cooperative movement is reducing the number of individual Jewish craftsmen engaged in private Industry, a tendency which is in line with the general economic trend in the country.
The Polish Government has granted the Polish ORT 7,000,000 zlotys as the first installment of its cash subsidy for 1949. In addition to cash, the government has undertaken to turn over to the rehabilitation and retraining agency machinery, tools and other materials to be used in its schools and vocational training centers, The non-cash aid is valued at 10,000,000 zlotys.
