About 900 workers of the Ata Textile Mills, the largest in Israel, went on strike today for increased wages. They joined several hundred other workers in two chocolate factories in Tel Aviv who have been striking several weeks for similar demands. The closing down of the Tel Aviv plants has resulted in a serious chocolate shortage.
Fear was expressed here today that strikes may also break out in other Industries. The present situation is aggravated by the refusal of the Industrialists Association to conclude negotiations with the Histadrut for a new labor agreement for the resent year. One of the basic demands of the Histadrut is an increase in wages.
