Canadian Jews Asked to Forward at Once Half of Anticipated Israel Appeal Funds

Canadian Jewry was called on today to immediately forward at least half of the quotas assumed in the 1949 United Israel Appeal in view the grave emergency financial needs of the Jewish Agency for settlement and immoderation programs.

An emergency week-end meeting attended by representatives of all Zionist parties and 20 major Jewish communities decided to urge all Canadian Jewish communities ?t to wait for completion of their U.I.A. drives, but to borrow a minimum of half of the anticipated funds and forward the monies to Appeal headquarters at once. The decision was approved following a report rendered by Dr. Nahum Goldmann, acting chairman of the American section of the Agency, and G. Hammer, its executive director, on the up-to-the-minute needs of the Jewish Agency.
