Jews Looking Forward to Normal Anglo-israeli Relations, Envoy Says on Arrival in London

Israel is looking forward to the establishment of normal, friendly relations with Britain, Mordecai Eliash, first Israeli Minister to London, said on his arrival here today to take up his duties.

Greeted at Hethrow airport by representatives of the British Foreign Office, members, of the Israeli mission in London and prominent British Zionist leaders, Eliash pledged himself, during a brief reception at the airport, to do all in his power tonight achieving this.

The Israeli envoy paid tribute to Britain’s traditional friendship toward small nations and said his country desired to live in peace with it3 neighbors and work with them on common regional tasks.

He pointed out that many problems of trade, finance and communications as well as other unsettled questions, left when Britain surrendered the Palestine mandate lass May, required attention and expressed the hope that these issues could be diseased in London and Tel Aviv in a cooperative spirit. He premised that the British representative soon to arrive in Tel Aviv would receive a cordial welcome from the Government and people of Israel.
