C.I.O. president Philip Murray has announced acceptance of an invitation from the Histadrut to send a commit bee of union leaders to Israel to study conditions there. The C.I.O. named Jacob Potofsky, president of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers; Joseph Curran, president of the National Maritime Union, and O.A. Knight, president of the Oil Workers International Union.
Knight will be unable to go because of forthcoming negotiations on the West coast, a spokesman for the C.I.O. said. Curran will leave New York April 19 and Potofsly will depart on the following day. They will first visit union leaders in England, France, and Italy, proceeding to Israel in time to be present for the first anniversary of the establishment of the Jewish state. Murray said that the “C.I.O. is gratified by this opportunity to develop still further our close fraternal relationship with Histadrut and with all the people of the democratic Jewish state.”
