The first, organized Jewish pilgrimage to Jerusalem since the proclamation of Israel will take place tomorrow when 2,000 men and women from, various parts of Israel bearing the ancient Torah of Pekiin arrive in the city.
Following the delivery of the Scroll to the Jeshurun Synagogue, the pilgrims will make a tour of Jewish defense positions in the new city. There, will be no visit to the Wailing Wall, which is located within the Arab held portion of the city and is inaccessible, Meanwhile, Christians throughout Israel were celebrating the Easter Holy Days. In Nazareth and Jaffa, special services were held with the assistance of the city authorities.
The first coins struck in Israel in nearly 2,000 years have been put into temporary use, it was announced here this week-end. The new coin is a flat metal disc with the word “Israel” in Hebrew and Arabic between a bunch of grapes on one side, and the value, 25 mils, on the other. The last Israeli coins, in use during the tine of Bar Kochba, leader of the Second Rebellion from 132 to 135 C.E. also bore the grape symbol on one side, but were made of bronze.
