Dr. Welter Eytan, director-general of the Israeli Foreign Ministry and chief of the Israeli delegation to the U.N.-sponsored Arab-Jewish meeting at Lausanne, today left here for Switzerland.
Official sources here refuse to confirm or deny a report from Transjordan-controlled Ranalleh that the joint Trans Jordan-Israeli commission on Jerusalem has interrupted its work until after the Lausanne parley. The Arab report stated that this development followed Israeli rejection of a TransJordanian demand that the Arab demands be accepted “as a whole.”
Hoshe Sharett, Israeli Foreign Minister, told a conference of editors of the Israeli press that the Government of Israel is not prepared to meet representatives of Syria at Lausanne unless a. Syrian-Israeli armistice is signed prior to the meeting. He added that the armistice agreement between Israel and TransJordan is being carried out in an orderly fashion and that there is no reason for any doubts on the part of Israel regarding the continuation of this process.
Brig. Gen, William Riley, of the United Nations Palestine Commission, presided today at an extraordinary meeting of the Israeli-Trans Jordan armistice sub committee, in Jerusalem, summoned unexpectedly since the next session had been scheduled for Monday. A communique after the session stated that the subcommittee had discussed implementation of an armistice convention for Jerusalem, but delegates of both sides maintained the strictest secrecy.
