The vacated aamp will be used to house American military and civilian personnel and their families.

The Austrian Government has prepared legislation providing for the restitution of homes and apartments taken from victims of the Nazis, The proposed law, the fifth in a series of restitution measures, will probably not ‘become effective until the early months of next year.

According to available statistics, some 70,000 apartments were taken over by Nazis and Nazi sympathizers during the wave of residential looting before and during the war. Officials now say, however, that only 4,000 have been requested by their former owners, because the previous occupants of the others are either dead, missing or have left the country in the vast migration of refugees, particularly of Jews.
