Noting that today marked the third anniversary of the arrival of the first DP ship in the U.S. under the Truman directive, the HIAS announced that it has not been called upon by the government to “make good” in a single case of all the displaced persons brought to this country under the organization’s corporate affidavits.
Meanwhile, the United Service for New Americans announced that the S.S. Gen. Howze docked yesterday in Boston with 346 Jewish DP immigrants–the largest single contingent to arrive in the U.S. since the Displaced Persons Act went into effect.
