In five months 30,000 housing units will be completed for new immigrants and war veterans all ever Israel, employing 8,000 building workers in June and 15,000 for the next few months, it was announced today by Labor Minister Golda Myerson at a meeting of the Knesset in a summary of the government housing and labor program, Mrs. Myerson added that 1,200 families would be settled in abandoned towns as soon as the government allocates $750,000 for the establishment of auxiliary farms.
The government plan includes the building of 4,000 cabins, a project which was begun by the Jewish Agency, and 16,000 units, including 6,000 wooden structures, by Amidar, the national housing organization. Mrs. Myerson also stated that the government was negotiating with three foreign concerns, including an American construction corporation, for the capitalization and building of homes.
She told the parliament that immigrants will be employed immediately in preparing land for construction purposes. This work, together with the employment of immigrants in the paving of roads and their maintenance, will figure in the budget for a total of $3,900,000, she stated.
