Brig. Gen. William Riley, chief of staff to the United Nations acting mediator for Palestine, arrived here today and immediately began conferences with Foreign Ministry officials. His visit is believed to be in connection with the Israeli-Syrian armistice, signature of which has been delayed pending final Damascus approval.
(Only a “fine point” is now delaying conclusion of the Israeli-Syrian armistice agreement, but the situation looks very good at the moment,” Acting United Nations Secretary-General Byron Price declared today at a press conference at Lake Success. Mr. Price also indicated that a small “measure of progress” toward a solution of the Arab refugee problem has been reached on a subcommittee level. He said the subcommittee report on the displaced Arabs and on Jerusalem will be ready in time for the reopening of the Arab-Israeli peace talks at Lausanne scheduled for Monday.)
