The appointment of David Wertheim, a Labor Zionist leader for the last 25 years, as director of HIAS in Israel, effective August 1, was announced here today. Mr. Wertheim and his family will leave here shortly for the Jewish state.
Mr. Wertheim, who has served as director of Latin American activities for the Histadrut since the end of the war, will “reorganize the HIAS offices in Israel and institute an augmented HIAS program of activities” there, the announcement added.
