The British Broadcasting Corporation will start a Full service in Hebrew beamed to Israel, it was learned today. The program will begin in about six weeks.

There has been considerable behind-the-scenes argument over the new Hebrew program. The Foreign Office believes that the program should be used to counter anti-British propaganda by the Israeli wireless and to continue the kind of political warfare that was customary during the Mandatory regime.

But this view seems to have been overruled and the present intention is to conduct a sympathetic, rigidly objective news service, mainly about Britain and British interests in the Middle East. This will be supplemented by cultural features. The authorities responsible for the new service insist that they want to build up goodwill and mutual understanding without interfering or unduly meddling in politics.
