Israel today formally protested to the U.N. Conciliation Commission against the circumstances in which 12 Jews were killed by bomb explosions in a Damacus synagogue last Saturday. Eighteen others are still receiving treatment for injuries suffered in the blast.
Reuters reported that today’s protest followed a verbal complaint made last night by the Israeli delegation participating in the Arab-Israeli peace talks here which are being held under the auspices of the U.N. Conciliation Commission for Palestine.
“The Syrian Government should be notified that such an outrage may gravely impede the Lausanne conciliation talks,” an Israeli spokesman said. The talks, nevertheless, continued informally today with the discussions centered on the tentative Israeli plan to readmit 100,00 Arab refugees to the Jewish state.
