The admission of Arab refugees to the United States under displaced persons legislation will be discussed by the Senate Immigration Subcommittee, chairman Pat McCarran said today. He added that his group will also give consideration to White Russians, Chinese displaced persons, and possibly DP’s from India.
Ugo Carusi, chairman of the U.S. Displaced Persons Commission, warned that thousands of European victims of war and religious persecution may never get to the United States unless Sen. McCarran and other Senators agree to changes in the present DP law. Mr. Carusi said that two restrictive limitations–the requirement that 40 percent of the DP’s come from Baltic countries and requirement that 30 percent be farmers–are causing the trouble.
