Forty-five hundred rabbis in the United States and Canada were today polled by the Jewish Statistical Bureau which is compiling the first complete Jewish Directory, it was announced here by Dr. Harry S. Linfield, executive secretary of the Bureau.
Besides containing an authentic list of rabbis in the U.S. and Canada, the Directory will detail all the Jewish congregations, their officers and other Jewish religious, educational and charitable institutions as well as other statistical information concerning the Jewish people. In the last previous census taken by Dr. Linfield, 1,751 rabbis were enumerated.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
