Shlomo Meerovitch, director of the labor department of the Manufacturers Association of Israel, arrived here on a six-week study tour of the United States. Mr. Meerovitch has spent months visiting Britain and other European nations studying labor legislation and social welfare programs and conferring with labor and industrial leaders.

He has been invited by the Department of Labor to visit Washington and meet with high government officials for conferences on labor legislation and conditions in the United States. Mr. Meerovitch is also interested in promoting the importation of investment capital from this country to Israel and hopes to inaugurate here a League of Friends of Israel Industry.

In the past few years Mr. Meerovitch’s department has been promoting agreements between Israel industrialists and Histadrut unions. Six years ago he was active in negotiating an agreement for cost of living bonuses for workers, while this year he was partly responsible for a contract between the Histadrut and the Israel metal industry which set up uniform conditions for the 10,000 workers in this industry. Another example of the work of Mr. Meerovitch’s department is the establishment, in cooperation with the Histadrut, of a national council on hygiene and safety in factories.
