The scheduled parade today of Sir Oswald Mosley and other members of his fascist Union Movement through the East End of London has been prohibited under Home Secretary’s James Chuter Ede’s three-month ban on all political parades in London announced yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen has posted notices in all London synagogues calling on all Jews to participate in a meeting tonight at Stepney Green, in the heart of the Jewish district of London, to protest the Mosley march. The meeting, attended by more than 2,000 persons, was held without incident, and under elaborate police protection. A Mosley gathering hold simultaneously was also uneventful.
The Jewish Board of Deputies Defense Committee has been in contact with the authorities and the Jewish veterans group. It is believed that Mr. Ede’s ban came as a result of the Board’s intervention.
