Gustav Friedel, a German policeman who was head of the Jewish section of the Gestapo in Bialystok during the war and who was found guilty of participating in the executions of tens of thousands of Jews in Bialystok, Zabludowe and other areas, was sentenced to death by the Bialystok court. The defendant was found guilty of personally putting to death more than 1,000 Jews.
