Israel Ambassador Eliahu Elath said today that persecution of Iraqi Jewry continues unabated according to “indirect” advices from the Near East.

The Ambassador conferred today with Raymond Here, acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs. The discussion was said to have involved “routine technical matters.”

(A spokesman for the French Foreign Office, commenting on a World Jewish Congress memorandum on the persecution of Jews in Iraq, asserted today that France, “faithful to its tradition, will not fail to intervene with the means at its disposal in all cases where fundamental human rights and the rights of minorities seem endangered,” a cable from Paris reported.)
