Press reports claiming that his recent visit to Europe was for the purpose of discussing the formation of a Sanhedrin with rabbis overseas were denied here by Rabbi Judah L. Maimon, Minister of Religion.

Minister Maimon emphasized that only rabbis in Israel were competent to decide on establishment of a Sanhedrin, adding that they required neither consultation with or approval of any rabbis overseas. He cited a thesis by Maimonides to support his contention.
