Any proposal to demilitarize Jerusalem is as unacceptable as the United Nations internationalization project, the Jewish Agency declared today.

“Surrounded from three sides by the Arab Legion,” the Agency said, “citizens of the new city will never agree to remain without military protection, because the moment the city is demilitarized, the Arabs may move in.”

Mayor Daniel Auster of Jewish Jerusalem made a similar statement, adding: “We will not repeat the bitter experience of 1948. We also do not want to start fighting again, as we would be forced to do if the Arabs should occupy the demilitarized city.”
