An appeal by seven former members of the wartime Rumanian police force who, in 1941, executed 600 Jews in the town of Orhei, in Bess-arabia, against varying terms of imprisonment was denied by the Rumanian Supreme Court. The jail terms range from 15 to 25 years.
The defendants were sent to Orhei to maintain law and order after it was reoccupied by the Rumanian Army. Upon their arrival they rounded up 650 Jews, executed 600 of them and shipped the remainder to a Nazi death camp.
