South African Jewish Leader Gets Italian Award for Aid to Partisans During War

President Luigi Einaudi of Italy has awarded the Star of Italy to Dr. H. Sonnabend, vice-chairman of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies, for his liaison work with Italian partisans during his military activities in Italy in 1944 and 1945. For part of the war, Dr. Sonnabend was responssible for the welfare of some 70,000 Italian prisoners of war in the Sonderwater Camp, in the Transvaal.
