Extension of the deadline for filing restitution claims in the U.S. zone of Germany by victims of Nazism was requested today in a communication from the World Jewish Congress to John J. McCloy, U.S. High Commissioner in Germany. The Congress asked that the new deadline on the filing of such claims be set for March 31, 1950.
“Although the law was promulgated at the end of August, 1949, it was made effective retroactive from April 1, so that the initially envisaged one year filing period was reduced by five months,” the World Jewish Congress pointed out.
