An official announcement issued by the Israel Government said today that the transfer of government offices from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is continuing systematically and that so far several ministries have already been fully transferred.
The transfer of the Premier’s office, the Ministries of Communications, Justice and Education is nearing completion, the announcement said. It added that next week the transfer of the Ministries of Interior, Immigration, Police and Labor will begin. The Comptroller’s Office will also be moved next week to Jerusalem, as will the government broadcasting studies.
Remaining in Tel Aviv for the present will be the Presidents Office, Foreign Office, Defense Ministry, Tourist Bureau, Planning Department and the Foreign Currency Control Department, the announcement said. The first buildings to be constructed in Jerusalem as the seat of the government will be the President’s Office, the Premier’s Office and the Parliament building, it added.
A committee of architects and engineers met today to consider plans to speed up the building of the government seat in Jerusalem on a plot where preparations for the erection of government buildings have already begun.
