Israel Ambassador Eliahu Elath conferred with Secretary of State Dean Acheson for 35 minutes today and, although the nature of the talk was not disclosed, diplomatic sources said the question of Britain’s supplying arms to the Arab states was discussed. The Israel Government is reportedly displeased at the views expressed by Mr. Acheson and the State Department, which countenance the shipment of munitions by Great Britain to the Arab states.
When he emerged from Mr. Acheson’s office, the Ambassador said only that he discussed “current topics concerning Israel.” Asked if the arms question was among the topics, Mr. Elath said he would prefer not to add anything else about the nature of the talk. The Israel Ambassador requested the audience with the Secretary of State.
