A Jewish school operated by the Alliance Israelite Univerelle in Beirut, capital of Lebanon, was blasted by a time bomb, the Hebrew newspaper Hearstz reported today. One person, the widow of the late director of the school, is know to have been killed in the explosion which took place during early morning hours.
The time bomb was planted by Arab saboteurs under cover of a rainy and storm-whipped night. The blast split the building in two, completely demolishing one wing. Fortunately, many Jews had left the building, in which a function had been held, a short while before the bomb went off.
Classes have been called off, and will not be resumed for a long times, Haaretz reported. It added that the French Minister in Lebanon had offered the Jews classroom space in a French Government-supported school, as did a Protestant school in the city. However, the majority of the students have been transferred to a local Jewish religious school.
