The village of Bnei Brak, whose population is entirely Orthodox, yesterday became the 13th community in Israel to achieve township status.
The town covers an area of nearly 2,000 acres and has a population of 12,000. Its industrial plants employ 200 men and women. The change in status was marked at a special ceremony attended by local officials and two Cabinet members–Minister of Interior Joseph Shapira and Minister of Welfare Rabbi I.M. Lewin.
