The difficulties encountered in absorbing thousands of North African Jewish immigrants into the economic and social life of Israel–which were emphasized at the European Zionist Conference here–have now been completely overcome, M. Rananes, president of the Jewish National Fund in Tunis, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today following his return from a five-week visit to Israel.
He revealed that food served in immigrant reception camps where the majority of the newcomers originate from Oriental countries is now being prepared in the Oriental fashion, whereas previously the immigrants were served European dishes with which they were not familiar. Unemployment among the North African Jews in Israel, which reached a high proportion last year, is now almost non-existent, he added.
