A bill providing for the abolition of capital punishment in Israel was submitted to the Knesset today. The measure fires the maximum criminal penalty as 20 years imprisonment. The death penalty is, however, retained in the proposed law for high treason and for soldiers guilty of crimes endangering the Jewish state. The bill is expected to be approved by a unanimous vote.
