Rabbi Philip S. Bernstein, of Rochester, N.Y., was elected president of the Central Conference of American Rabbis last night at the current session of the organization. He succeeds Dr. Jacob Marcus, of Cincinnati, who declined renomination.
Earlier, delegates attending the Conference’s symposium on “The Future of the American Jewish Community” heard Dr. Abba Hillel Silver assert that the Jewish community in the United States “owes to itself and to history to take over its full measure of responsibility for carrying on the historic work of Judaism.” Dr. Abram L. Sachar, president of Brandeis University, also addressed the sympceium.
