Emphasizing that both Israel and Jordan are trying to prevent frontier incidents, the London Times said in an editorial that the incidents which have developed during the last few days on the Israel-Jordan border show the need of replacing the armistice agreement by at least a formal non-aggression pact. The editorial points out that Jordan cannot conclude a peace pact without risking expulsion from the Arab league.

“The Government of Israel,” the British newspaper said, “has more than once declared its readiness to enter peace negotiations with Jordan as with other Arab states.” The editorial pointed out that Abdullah very badly needs an outlet on the Mediterranean which Israel could give him.
