Another 1,200 Rumanian Jewish immigrants arrived here today aboard the liner Transylvania.
Some of the immigrants reported that the Rumanian Government has distributed exit visas to some 20,000 Jews who will leave the country for Israel between now and September. Another report said that 100,000 Rumanian Jews are prepared to come to Israel.
(In New York Hias announced that it has appropriated an additional $100,000 for its Rumanian office. The money will be used to assist Israel-bound Rumaian Jews, many of whom are “destitute” and require aid before sailing. The organization, which expects 4,000 Jews to leave Rumania monthly for the remainder of the summer, also assists the immigrants with documentation, transportation and baggage problems.)
More than 88,000 immigrants were living in camps in Israel at the end of May, according to the Jewish Agency. Over 12,400 new immigrants arrived in the Jewish state that month.
