Israel Does Not Contemplate Entry into Sterling Bloc; Public Opinion Divided on Issue

Israel’s reentry into the sterling bloc is not envisaged for the present time, Israel circles here said, commenting on the announcement that Transjordan has tied its currency to Britain’s.

Israel circles said that the Israel Government has no official policy in regrad to reentry into the sterling bloc. They pointed out that public opinion in the Jewish state is divided on this issue.

Transjerdan’s action was soon as having no direct effect on Israel’s financial situation. The same Israel circles said that this development was expected as a result of the recent Anglo-Israel financial agreement.
