The municipality of Kitchener, Ontario, has followed the example of Toronto, Hamilton, Oshawa and Windsor in banning racial and religious discrimination by business establishments dealing with the public and licensed by the city.
The new by-law will affect barber shops, hairdressing parlors, pawnbrokers, lending libraries, pet shops, milk and cream vendors, swimming pools, public baths and garages. It is expected that a number of other municipalities will soon enact similar anti-discrimination laws. The legality of such enactments had been confirmed by the provincial Minister of Municipal Affairs.
