Four Israel soldiers were killed today when an army vehicle in which they were riding struck a landmine near Beit Jibrin, in southern Israel. Four other soldiers were seriously wounded.
Taking a most serious view of the armistice breach, the Israel Army has ordered the withdrawal until further notice of all Israel troops assigned to mixed border patrols, together with Trans-Jordan troops. The Army also ordered a halt to all Israel-Trans Jordan border demarcation work.
Four immigrants who recently arrived in Israel and settled in the Shubakh settlement, located near the Gaza border, have been missing since August 20, it was announced today. The settlers left their homes to pick fruits and have not been heard from since. Police stationed in Migdal Gad opened an investigation but to date their efforts have proved fruitless. It is believed they must have lost their way and strayed into Egyptian territory. A request that they be traced by the Egyptian authorities has been made through the mixed Israel-Egyptian Armistice Commission.
