Former Secretary of the Treasury Henry Morgenthau, Jr., now general chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, has been awarded the 1950 Annual National Service Award of Phi Epsilon PI social fraternity, it was announced here today by Louis D. Traurig, national president of the organization at the 46th annual convention of the 10,000 member fraternity.
The award was conferred upon Mr. Morgenthau in absentia as the person who, in the past year, has made “the richest contribution to the essential Jewish life of America.” Mr. Morganthau was cited for his dynamic leadership in raising nearly half a billion dollars for the relief, resettlement and rehabilitation of European Jews through the U.J.A.
