The Maccabi delegations here in Israel for the Third World Maccabiah, carried their colors through the streets of Jerusalem to Mt. Herzl, overlooking the city, to the tomb of Theodor Herzl, father of modern Zionism. At the tomb, in ceremonies witnessed by thousands of spectators, they paid homage to the Zionist leader and pledged eternal loyalty to Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, with the Maccabiah contest in full swing in various parts of the country, Israel–after four days of a variety of athletic events-has taken the lead on points. At the end of yesterday’s tournaments, the Jewish state held 93 points, as compared with 41 for South Africa, 38 for the United States and 21 for Britain. The Netherlands delegation is runner-up to date with 61 points. The Americans’ points were scored mostly in basketball, field and track and wrestling. Israel took the lead in point-scoring in tennis, discus-throwing, fencing, boxing and broad jumping.
