Egypt Prepares to Purchase Arms Abroad; Syria Boycotts Cyprus over Israel Trade

The Egyptian Cabinet decided yesterday to allocate some 3,000,000 pounds for the purchase of arms abroad, it was reported here today in a dispatch from Cairo. The dispatch said that the action was taken in view of the fact that Britain has reduced the quantity and type of armaments it will sell Egypt.

Syria and several other Arab states have decided to curtail their trade with Cyprus in view of the island’s increasing trade commitments with Israel, it was reported here from Beirut.
