The first of the group of 106 Jewish refugees from Shanghai whose detantion on Ellis Island last June and subsequent repatriation to Germany aroused nationwide interest, will return to the United States for permanent settlement in about a week’s time, the United Service for New Americans reported today.

Dr. Hugo Lewensohn, leader of the group, and his wife Marietta, have received their visas and will arrive in New York in a week. The remainder of the group is expected to follow shortly. The group has been kept together in the I.R.O.’s Camp Grohn at Bremen, while awaiting visa clearance. Visas for the group are being issued under a government ruling obtained by the U.S.N.A. and the Joint Distribution Committee enabling the Shanghai refugees to apply for reentry.
